Default browser setting propagates across users

B

Bert Hyman

I'm running XP Pro and have two user accounts installed; one for me and
one for my wife.

I recently installed Mozilla Firefox to play with and made it ->my default
browser.

When my wife logged on and fired up IE, it complained that it wasn't the
default browser, and my wife made it ->her default browser.

When I logged on again later and fired up Firefox, it complained that it
wasn't ->my default browser.

I can ping-pong back and forth between the two accounts, and it's obvious
that setting the default browser for one user also changes it for the
other.

Is this by design, or is there some trick I'm missing?

It's ->really annoying.

Hi Bert,

It's by design. The user interface does not provide an option for setting a per-user default browser or mailer. I've invested considerable time on this and came-up with these two utilities which can accomplish what you want.

Set the default browser for your user profile:

Set the default email client on a per-user basis - Windows XP:
