Default Administrators Password?

G

Gene Sturner

I just purchased a Compaq Presario 3320 with Windows XP
preloaded. I set it up for five users with myself and two
sons as administrator, and wife and daughter as users
(OK--so it's a chauvinist attitude).

Problem--in an attempt to install Palm Desktop Software to
my wifes' area, it requires an ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD. I
recall no mention of password when determing adminstrators!

Is there a super-secret default password, like 1234 or
something?

There is no default password for the Administrator's
account in Windows XP. Try using your TAB key
to tab through the password request box, then hit enter.

Windows XP Key is a program to reset Windows XP security
if Administrator password, secure boot password or key disk is lost.

When you first install Windows XPthere is no password set for the
Administrator.
That it is to say it is blank so you can hit enter to go on. This may fix
your problem.
For good security you should set a password for The Administrator.

However it seems odd that the application is asking for it.
This may be an indication that there is something wrong with your user
permissions.

Open control panel and check that you are indeed shown as part of the
administrator group.

Hi Gene,
When you click on the .exe, try a right click and runas and enter and admin
name and P/w.

With Palm, it may be safer to change your wife to Admin for the install I
would check and double check after the install , and potential turn back to
Limited, to see that it all works.
