Sir Timbit

Hi there,

Is there a registry setting I can set to change the default setting for when
a user clicks "Shut Down" from the Start menu in XP?

Right now, when a user clicks Start-->Shut Down, the default action
displayed is to restart the computer. I'd like it show "Shut down the
computer" instead.

This is for a lab of kindergarten PCs, and it would just be easier if this
was the default action. I've tried doing this in a default profile, but it
doesn't seem to be catching on. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sir Timbit

I don't know a specific way to do that, but there are many ways you could
simplify the shutdown process if that is your goal. You could:
1) Use local policy to remove access to shutdown/restart/logoff
2) create a batch script that runs "shutdown -f"
3) create a shotrcut pointing to the batch script on the desktop (pretty
eductational shortcut icon optional)

Sorry I don't have a direct answer but I hope that helps.
