Declare DLL Call Caused an Exception

A computer is getting an error message 'Declare DLL Call Caused an
Exception' everytime we start a certain application.
After we restore the hard drive using Norton's Ghost, the error
disappears for a short time (about a week or less) then starts
occuring again until we restore the image.

The application itself is at least 6 years old and we don't have the
installation media.

Any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue are *really*
appreicated.
