Deal ticket database

I'm a beginner on Access. I thought this would be the best place to find
direction. I need to build a database where i can input information on buys
and sells of natural gas that i've done. I'd have to put the customer i
sold or bought gas to/from, the date, the days i did it for, a location, the
person i did it with, price, price type and then i'd have to have the
database print out a ticket that shows me all of that. does anyone know
where i can start? or should i just buy an Access book and begin from the
bottom up?

see if there is anything that might fit.

yeah; buy a couple of books; get to know the product.

Access is a great program.

If you need something today, could you get this done in Work or Excel?

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to the world of Access.

You'll find that the learning curve to getting to where you can do
useful things with Access is longer and steeper than with most
applications aimed at untrained users. There is lots of help
available. Unfortunately it's fragmented, especially that for a
beginner. As is always the case, the effort required to learn will be
yours.

Buy a book or two and more as you go along. Start at the beginner
level, if nothing else, get an Access for Dummies". They're not
totally bad. I suggest visiting the computer section of Barnes &Noble
or Borders or the like. Pick up likely candidates and browse. Take
just the one or two that really speak to you such that you can
understand. You might even browse the stores and order used books
online, whatever...

Beside this group I always recommend:

microsoft.public.access.gettingstarted
microsoft.public.access.tablesdesign

as other very useful groups for beginners. Just about all of the
Access newsgroups are useful and active. Unfortunately the
self-discipline of posting to the newsgroup formed to address the
issue at hand is honored more in the breech than in observance. By
the nature of its name, any technical issue related to Access comes
into this newsgroup without recrimination. In any of the groups you
find what you find where you find it.

Another great resource is www.mvps.org/access It has lots of Access
lore and links to a lot more.

This long rambling post responds to your plea for direction. When the
issue is specific and technically related to Access you'll get direct
and appropriate responses.
