DeadAIM no longer free?

Lame D Aim

It may be very clear on the website as to the "no longer freeware" status of
Dead Aim, but it is also very clear to me and others that this Dead Aim
company is lame.

I paid for the first "pay" version on June 17, 2003; price was $1.50. I paid
because it's a cheap little program that has some utility, but not much, and
I don't mind supporting people. Not sure where I would have previously
drawn the line on price, because as I said, the program really doesn't do
much. I can stop the AIM adds with my Kerio rule set; the logging is kind of
nice, but even most of that can be achieved (if you feel like it) by saving
the IM session to *.html via the AIM menu options. So what's really left?
Not much.

Here's what did make me draw the line at its value now being $0.00. As
stated, I purchased on 6/17/2003; a new version became available 3 days
later on 6/20/2003, and the price was upped to $4.99. Turns out my purchase
got me nothing but 3 days of use before the new version came out, and only
through the smart-assed moderators of the Dead Aim forum did I find out that
the version I bought doesn't entitle me (or anybody else) to an upgrade even
after only three days. Total BS. By the way, I didn't post on the forum with
my situation...I didn't have to...plenty of others did. If you care to waste
a little time, and it would be a waste, visit the JDennis/Dead Aim forum and
see what I mean (tons of threads have been locked where people were
complaining).

And it's not so much the money (what's $5.00?), it's the arrogant way the
company and the forum moderators deal with people inquiring about the
upgrade status of the previous version.

It's outta here. It's just a lame little toy any way.

Also, seems like offering a product free that steps on another company's
code to achieve its goals might be a risky proposition, but it may not
necessarily raise the ire of the company who got stepped on. Start charging
for stepping on someone's code (and advertisers), and that might get you
squashed. Any thoughts?
