Hmmmm....

My Pc died a death!!!

Syptoms:

There have been several stages I've got to.

First pc would shut itself down after about 10 secs. Not an overheating
problem, Heatsink is cool to the touch.

Shorted the CMOS and tried again, and got "CMOS reports Checksum Error"

I cleared the CMOS again, and this time was able to enter the bios long
enough to reset to defaults.

The PC seems to boot now, but only get 20 secs in before the pc shuts itself
down. Each time I have to unplug the power cable for a minute or 2 before it
will start again.

Have checked Vid-card, memory, reseated the CPU, Tested PSU, I even tried
swearing at the PC... all to no avail.

My thoughts are with a failed motherboard, any ideas??

Try Re-Flashing The Bios, Beleive it or not sometimes it goes corrupt,

I had a similar problem and it was the memory. The unplug the power cable thing
got me to thinking that the memory would be the only thing that would change
from a complete disconnect from power. I tried a different stick of ram and my
bad mb turned out to be bad ram instead. (ymmv and all that)

Sounds very similar to the problem I had when the caps on my Gigabyte 7VTXH
were bad - have a good look on the capacitors on your board check for
bulging caps and traces of dark brown fluid I had 3 bad caps on my board
with a slight bulge and small trace of fluid.

I agree with this. I just lost an ABIT KT7 to bad caps. This board just
died while running. At first we thought it might be a power supply
problem, but replacing the power supply made no difference. On inspection,
3 caps near the AGP slot were bulging and had dried brownish dust on the
top and a couple more near the IDE ports are beginning to bulge on top.
Capacitors should have flat tops with no bulge. If they're beginning to
look more rounded on top, it's a sign of possible problem. I'm ready to
open up another case that I have (same ABIT board, still running) to check
those caps.
