deactivating XP Firewall

I posted my question 2 days ago, but it never appeared, so I try once more.

At home I have a VPN-Connection to my server in the office. Until I did not activate the XP-Firewall everything worked fine.
Then I activated the XP-Firewall and got problems (no connection any more, or error-messages from the office-software) probably due to blocking of TCP/IP ports.
As I don't know which TCP/IP-ports my office-software (Intersystems Chaché) needs to be opened, I tried to deactivate the XP-Firewall in order to resume the previous installation, but things didn't get better.
Does the deactivation really deactivates all settings or does something remain or did the XP-Firewall corrupt some settings in my VPN-certificate?

How can I get back to the previous settings (with no firewall activated)?
Have I to reinstall the VPN-Certificate?
Have I to reinstall XP?
May some correction in the registry help?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

Andreas

Its more than likely a configuration problem, if by deactivating the inbuilt firewall is not getting it back to the original state, i would suggest you do a system restore, a full reinstall is not required.

To enable/disable the built-in firewall, Start > Network
Connections > Right-click the connection > Properties > Advanced >

However, since connecting a computer to the Internet without a
firewall is a very foolhardy action, a better course might be:
