ASUS recommended ram is DDR400 (PC3200) only.

How about faster memory like DDR500 or DDR466?
I have never done overclocking. But, if I want to, wouldn't I be better off
if I have faster ram?

Yes...future proof, even better would be if Corsair would just jump to
DDR600 and stop trying to cash in off customers by doing PC4200, 4500, 4700
etc.

Sure. Maximum PC just had an article on this - tested 5 brands of memory to
see how fast they'd run. Mushkin and Kensington came out on top in their
particular review sample. Crucial did fine, the other 2 failed at
overclocking.
