ddr ram confusing

I've just ordered new computer an amd duron, 1.8 ghz. Not the fastest
processor, but good for what i need it for. The ddr memory kinda gets
confusing to me on what to buy. Memory
2 DDR DIMM Sockets
· Two 184-pin 2.5V DDR SDRAM (200/266)
· Maximum: 2GB
question is, will any ddr work, or do need specific kind, pc2100, 2700, etc.
Have a similar system that takes pc 2100. Thanks for any info

You'd want to avoid PC1600, but in general yes, any (other) DDR
should work, those rated at higher than the PC2100 speed you need
would simply run at the slower speed, are backwards compatible.
If buying more memory it might make sense to buy higher than
PC2100 speed due to higher potential of being able to reuse it in
the future... toward that end a good choice might be
PC3200-PC3500, 512MB (per) module. 1GB modules are still
disproportionately priced else I'd recommend one of those since
your system has only two memory slots.

Hi,

DDR200=PC1600
DDR266=PC2100
DDR333=PC2700
DDR400=PC3200
etc.

Get the fastest that your m/b will support. In your case, it is PC2100 or
DDR266 ram. You could go for faster, but if your m/b supports 266 as
maximum, then whatever you buy that is faster than 266, will only run at
266.

There is of course overclocking, but if you are not into that, then PC2100
or DDR266 will be fine.
