I want to be able to make changes to one document and have those changes reflected in multiple other Word documents at the time of change

Right now I am using the Copy/Paste Special technique, which of course means that I need to prompt the system to "update" the links each time I open the documents linked to the Master document

I know that DDEAUTO will allow me to do what I want to do but so far I have not been able to figure out the proper syntax to make it happen. I set up a bookmark in the Master document for the field I want to automatically update and then created a field in the supporting documents using the syntax, { DDEAUTO WinWord C:\\Mastername.doc [bookmark in Master document]

Please let me know if I'm approaching this right or if you have another way to accomplish my objective I am open to suggestions.

I appreciate the response and read the article you suggested. I have tried to automatically pass through information from one brand new document with only one word of text present, to another new document. The results are the same, so, based on that, I don't think any existing formatting is getting in the way. Is the syntax I used in the first post correct

Again, thanks for responding.....
