Dcpromo

About one year ago our office was running NT 40 as a primary domain
controller. We added a new server computer with Windows 2000 Server and
upgraded our NT40 server to Windows 2000. The NT 40 machine had a hard drive
of 9 gbs. The partition had originally been set at 2 gbs. I converted the
disk to dynamic disk, but I am unable to increase the partition size. I am
running out of disk space and active directory is failing. Is there a way to
run DC promo on this machine and have it set back to a stand alone server and
leave the other domain controller to handle active directory as the forest
root domain server? I appreciate your help in this matter.

Start - run - dcpromo.

The FSMO roles this DC holds should off load to another DC during the
dcpromo process or you can manually transfer them before you start.
See:
How To View and transfer FSMO Roles in the Graphical User Interface

As Danny says, use dcpromo.

The server will become a member server, not a standalone server, but I think
you probably knew that.
