dcpromo /adv

Hi, I use windows server 2k sp4 SBS, fully patched.
I am creating a disaster recovery plan for my company. As part of it we are
using ntbackup every 30 days and transfer it off site to secure active
directory.

After installing SBS and restoring the files using ntbackup in DS restore
mode, the rebuilt computer won't start up, not even in safe mode. After
reading some documentation
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pr...irectory/maintain/opsguide/part1/adogd03.mspx)
I've tried copying hal.dll from the original pc, removing the nic and video
drivers, and of course the partitions are greater than or equal to what is
on the original.

I've also tried restoring AD to an alternate location and attempted to run
dcpromo /adv (IFM) but I dont ever see the dialog that says restore from an
alternate location, it just wants to look for an existing DC.

Any help/links would be appreciated, thanks
Brandon

Update: After reinstalling SBS and trying to do a restore of the system
state the computer now boots into safe mode, I'll try to reinstall the HAL
using the repair tools on Disc 1.

IFM requires another fully functioning DC that the promoting DC can
contact. If you only have one DC, it isn't an option for you.

good to know.. I was thinking of setting up a test lab of my production
enviroment using /adv ... How from your post I gather this will not work
since I wil only have a single DC in my test labs..

Thanks for the info..
