When i try to run DCPROMO i get this error "FAILED FINDING
A SUITABLE DOMAIN CONTROLLER FOR THE DOMAIN" The existing
Dc is a 2K server

the only error i see is in the DNS tab of eventviewer

Event id 4515

The zone gtek.com was previously loaded from the directory
partition MicrosoftDNS but another copy of the zone has
been found in directory partition ForestDnsZones.GTEK.com.
The DNS Server will ignore this new copy of the zone.
Please resolve this conflict as soon as possible.

If an administrator has moved this zone from one directory
partition to another this may be a harmless transient
condition. In this case, no action is necessary. The
deletion of the original copy of the zone should soon
replicate to this server.

There are no other issues on this box other than DNS, I
have looked in theknowledge base but cannot find that
Event ID

Any help is appreciated The domain runs fine but I cannot
add a 2ND DC to the domain and i need to get going

thanks

A couple of things to look at Cesar,

Make sure your existing Domain Controller is in the Domain Controller OU.
Make sure your Default Domain Controller Policy is not disabled
Open your default domain controller policy and make sure the following user rights have EVERYONE in them.
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights -
Access this computer from the network
Bypass Traverse Checking

Also - make sure your DNS is correctly configured - On the properties of your existing DC's TCP/IP settings you should have your DNS as the preffered DNS server. A common error is to include the ISP in the Alternate. Don't do that. The ISP should be configured as a Forwarder in the DNS console not in the properties of the TCP/IP settings.

Hope these suggestions help.
