DCOM errors and Certificate Services...

Hello,

I am getting the following error on my application server:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10006
Date: 12/13/2003
Time: 3:46:54 AM
User: PAI\Veritas
Computer: TAM-APP
Description:
DCOM got error "Class not registered " from the computer
PATH2K-SRV1 when attempting to activate the server:
{D99E6E73-FC88-11D0-B498-00A0C90312F3}

It is referring to my domain controller (path2k-srv1). I
have seen many articles that say to simply install
Certificate Services and the error will go away. The
problem with installing Certificate Services is that once
installed, you cannot rename the machine, leave a domain,
or join a new domain.

So my question is, if I were to install Certificate
Services on the Domain Controller, if I needed to join
another domain or rename the machine, could I simply
uninstall Certificate Services and it would then allow me
to do that? Or, would it leave remnance behind that might
prevent me from joining a domain or renaming the machine?
If anyone knows anything about this, I would very much
appreciate the help. Thanks.

You cannot rename a domain controller or join it to a new domain. So, you
don't lose this capability by installing certificate services.
