This what I see when I go to My Computer > Manage > Event View System:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10005
Date: 6/18/2004
Time: 8:45:52 AM
User: CPQ28877506514\Test User
Computer: CPQ28877506514
Description:
DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service BITS with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097}

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I think that this is related to problems with the taskbar, desktop, and MSN Explorer (I use MSN Internet Access) freezing up whenever I connect to the internet. The only way I can prevent the freezeup is to keep the start menu open while moving the mouse as I connect to the internet.

I think that this may have something to do with files the system deleted when the system scanned itself since these freezeups didn't seem to happen prior to performing a scan (I can activate this scan also use "chkdsk /f" in the Command Prompt).

So anyone have any suggestions on how I would resolve this error? I get it every time I log in (I also sign in to the internet every time I log in).

I ignore all DCOM errors. I also have Background Intelligent Transfer
Service
disabled.

[[attempting to start the service BITS with arguments]]
Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Uses idle network bandwidth to transfer data.

[[In theory this should be a useful service, especially since it can
continue an interrupted download due to a logoff or shutdown situation.
Unfortunately, it can also be prone to trouble when the resumption occurs.]]

[[This service is used to transfer asynchronous data via http1.1 servers.
According to Microsoft's site, Windows Update uses this "feature." It
"continues" a download if you log off or shutdown the system (that is, when
you log back in). The problem with that is, I do not like having this
"feature" running all of the time. Even though I have found no side effects
as to this being disabled, you may require this service for some MSN
Explorer, Windows Messenger, Windows Media Player or future .NET functions.
Take note: Manual update via Windows Update web site requires Cryptographic
Services to be running.]]

*If you have disabled "Automatic Updates" service, you won't need this
service running.
e.g.
Your "Automatic Updates" service sends information to Microsoft Windows

installed. The updater server reports back that you have updates to perform.
This is all done in the background.
