DC crash

HI,

One of the DC in our domain crashed (hard drive completly dead).
We are installing the OS again in a new HW. If I promote the server to
DC with the same name as the one that crashed should it be the same as
the old one ??
The old DC isn't demoted . How can I install the new DC and use the
same name ??
Is it ok to name it the same as the old one ?? How can I demote the
old server manually ??

Before you install the new machine with the same name as the old one you
must do a couple of things:

- Metadata cleanup
- Remove old DNS records that correspond to the old server (don't forget
_msdcs)
- Remove WINS records that correspond to the old server
- Remove the old DC object from Sites and Services

The tools you will need is NTDSUTIL, LDP and/or ADSI Edit.
And make sure all changes have replicated before you begin the installation.
