Daylight Savings Time and Files

Tom Rogers

When our servers automatically adjusted for Daylight Savings Time, the time
stamp of ALL the files on our Dell PowerVault 715N file server (W2K Advanced
Server Based device) changed by 1 hour!

Has any else ever seen this and if so, how do we prevent this from happening
again.

TIA,

-Tom

Are you sure you want to stop that dating change from happening? If you save
a file at 1:50AM just before the fall time set back at 2AM, then if you save
that file again at 2:10AM, it will show as 1:10AM and appear as having been
created before the first save rather than after.

The important piece of info that you left out is what file system
you are using. NTFS stores times in UTC while FAT stores times in
local time. Also, with FAT file systems, file times will be off 1
hour on automatic conversion to/from Daylight savings time until the
machine is rebooted. For more info, see "File Times":
