Is there something in Vista or a free program that I can use to remind me of
birthdays....

If you want to run windows calendar at startup, it would do the reminder
thing.

I'm pretty sure I'm *not* "running windows calendar" at startup, but I
receive my all my reminders, as set.

It's what I like best about Windows Calendar, as opposed to many third-party
calendars (even Works Calendar) that indeed had to be set to run at startup.

Maybe it's moot or just semantics, but can anyone set the record straight on
whether one has to "run windows calendar on startup" to receive reminders?

How do I run calendar at startup? It works at my job, but not at home. I
want the reminders to pop up on my computer but they don't.

Did you do the following, or similar?

To create an appointment
On the toolbar, click New Appointment.
In the New Appointment box, type a description of the appointment.
In the Location box on the Details pane, type the location of the
appointment.
In the Calendar list, click the calendar where you want the appointment to
appear.
To make an all-day appointment, select the All-day Appointment check box.
Enter start and end times.
To make the appointment recur, in the Recurrence list, click the type of
recurrence you want.
To set a reminder, in the Reminder list, click how long before the
appointment you want to be reminded.
To invite someone, in the Attendees list, type the e‑mail address of the
person you want to invite, press ENTER, click the e‑mail address in the
Invite list, and then click Invite.

(From Vista Help, "calendar" and "reminder")

Jackie,

You said "my calendar." I presume you meant Windows Calendar. Are you
talking about Windows Calendar or some other calendar? Please be more
specific in your posts so we can help you.

To make reminders pop up, using Vista's Windows Calendar, open Windows
Calendar and follow the instructions I previously posted.

The Recurrence list is a drop-down list indentified by a button with a
down-arrow on it. It can be found in the Details Pane of Windows Calendar.
If you're not seeing the Details Pane, turn it on by clicking View, then
clicking Details Pane.

How are you coming so far?

Brian

Thanks so much. I FINALLY got it.
