date in footer

have a word doc where I need an auto date as dd/mm/yy but it is defaulting to
mm/dd/yy can anyone help?? tried control panel and it is dd/mm/yy.
 
What format is selected as the default in Insert | Date and Time?

Go into the footer and change the field's "picture." See
