date field and DIW

Mick

i am using access database, and the FrontPage DIW to update it.
I have a date field in the database, and when I write a new record with this
date field blank no problem.
If I attempt to update the record and leave the date field still black I get
the usual error message. I put a date value in the field all ok, record
updates ok
How can I update a record and still leave he date field blank please.

sorry for a second post, first one to the wrong group.

Hi Mick
If you are not using the date field why not remove it from the access
database?

Hi Paul , thanks for the reply. I need to use this field later, but not when
the record is first written, so its only filled in perhaps on the 2nd or 3rd
update of the record

Hi Mick
I would probably just create a hidden field in the original form which
submits the original database entry. You can then add a date there or just
some text saying "no date added" or something like that as the default text
for the form field this will then be added to the database field as default
If you have MS access you can set a default for a field there instead of
using a form field.

Have you tried changing the database field to accept nulls or zero lengths
You might have to run the DIW again and maybe it will then accept the null
fields.
