Date Diff

Hi
we are working on a database and need to know the time between date approved
and date processed. I can get this to work on the form, however it is not
saving it anywhere accept in the form, so when I run a query this field comes
up blank. I have the field in my table but can't get the formula to work in
the table.

As you stated this is a calculated field. You can get it to work in the form
that means you have the correct syntax for the expression. Calculated fields
shouldn't be stored in tables but have to be calculated in queries. So place
your expression in a queryfield and use the queryfield as the source for your
form.

Storing derived data such as this in your table accomplishes
three things: it wastes disk space; it wastes time (almost
any calculation will be MUCH faster than a disk fetch); and
most importantly, it risks data corruption. If one of the
underlying fields is subsequently edited, you will have data
in your table WHICH IS WRONG, and no automatic way to detect
that fact.

Just redo the calculation whenever you need it, either as a
calculated field in a Query or just as you're now doing it -
in the control source of a Form or a Report textbox.
