datagrid sort - 3 col in file - 2 col in datagrid - fails?

VB 2005 + SQL Express 2005 + XP
The SQL file has 3 col but I when I display only 2 col on the datagrid
the programmatic sort does not work.
When I display all 3 col on the datagrid the sort works.
Should this have been obvious? Or is this a silly bug?

i use mostly the sort method on the bindingsource and this eems to work
fine for me
