Database opens in Read Only mode

Anyone know why a database would open as “read only I have a user who,
when she opens a particular database, it opens in read only mode. She is
able to open other databases just fine, but this particular one always opens
as "read only" for her.

When I open this same database on my computer, it does not open in “read
only†mode (i.e., it opens in edit mode). And I've tried opening the
database on several other machines, and in all cases, the database opens in
edit mode.

Anyone have any suggestions? We're running Access 2003 on Windows XP,
service pack 2.

Thanks,
Manuel

Suggestions:

1. While Access is not running, have her open My Computer and navigate to
the folder where the database is stored. Right-click the database file, and
examine its Properties. Read-only?

2. Still in My Computer, see if there there a tiny (1kb) LDB file there as
well. If so, delete the LDB. This file contains mulit-user locking
information. It is normally deleted when you close Access, but can be left
there after a crash.

3. If the database is opened over a network, or contains attached tables
that are linked from a file on the network, check the network permissions.
She needs full rights (read, write, create, delete.)

4. Open the database a different way (in case she has a read-only shortcut.)
