Last week I thought I successfully installed an eval version of SP2 by first
installing SP1 that I downloaded and then installing the SP2 update on top.
However I found that although I could import my own components into the database
I could not update them because the system said I did not have write access.
Since I was unable to correct this problem I decided to remove everything and
install again. This time I paid closer attention to the installation messages
which included:
Setup will now create a READ ONLY file share on this system called
'Repositories'
The message referred me to the Installation Guide of Getting Started for more
information. The Installation Guide (step 12 of database) stated:
The following message may appear:
Setup will now create a READ/WRITE file share on this system called
'Repositories'
I could find no information about how the choice between READ ONLY and
READ/WRITE is made. The host computer runs XP Pro/SP2 and I am logged in as
administrator. I installed the eval edition before without experiencing this
problem but previously I used a shrink wrapped copy of the eval software rather
than a downloaded one.
How can I convince the installer to make my database READ/WRITE?
