Thanks to all that replied.

I have found 'a solution' but not necessarily the right solution! It appears
that if you look at the component services tab (>control
panel>Administrative Tools) and review the properties for the component in
question, there is a tab for Security and a checkbox for Authorisation -
Enforce Access Checks for this Application. This was checked and unchecking
it allowed the app. to work!

Question is, in a real solution, am I decreasing the security? How can I
keep this option and code correctly to allow for this?

Ah well, I can move on!

What you would need is to pass the correct credentials along with your CS
also if you are accessing tables that are only allowed for certain users
