Our company is looking for a solution to the issues described below. Can you
read it over and let me know if your company has a solution that might work
for us.

Issue:
When new computers are setup or existing ones rebuilt they are not
completely mirroring the look, feel, function, and contents of the previously
used machine.

Goal:
To determine the best possible process(es) and/or solution(s) to maximize
the transfer of the look, feel, function, and contents from one computer to
another. The source and destination computers will most likely differ in
type, model, or sometimes make.

Our Environment:
Some examples of source/destination migrations:

1. Desktop (source) to a Laptop (destination)
2. Dell Latitude D600 (source) to a Dell X300 (destination)
3. Dell Latitude D600 (source) to a HP TC4200 Tablet (destination)

Some examples of the applications that we install on our desktops/laptops:

1. Windows OS
2. Windows Office
3. Lotus Notes
4. IE
5. AOL
6. Adobe
7. Winzip
8. IBM Client Access
9. Cisco VPN
10. BlackBerry Desktop

In the above cases we would like to transfer the programs, as well as the
data and settings.

Any ideas? How does everyone handle this?

Hi,

The way I do it, is to use Unattended builds over the network; this
allows a wide range of drivers to cope with different hardware.

For user profiles, I simply use roaming profiles.

You may want to check out the Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop
Deployment, or other tools available from the
http://www.microsoft.com/desktopdeployment web site. The User State
Migration Tool (USMT) is designed for the tasks that you described, although
some customization would be needed for the apps you listed, and it only
transfers settings - migrating the applications typically requires
reinstalling the applications.
