Data Execution Prevention closes Windows Explorer itself???

What to do if Data Execution Prevention closes Windows Explorer itself???
Windows doesn't start normally, instead of loading all applets I get the
messsage:
Data Execution Prevention closes Windows Explorer ...
I can't run any program without this alert.

Only after entering into safe mode, I was able to configure DEP to allow
windows explorer to do whatever it wants and then finally also to start the
computer normally again.

Do you think it's normal? Can I troubleshoot somehow windows explorer and
DEP?

How to remove and forgot this unhappy piece of DEP in Win XP Pro SP2???

When I switched DEP to Turn on DEP for all programs and exclude
explorer.exe I finally was able to start my PC again ...
until I found out that my printer throws now out blank pages even not trying
to print and some other weird behaviour and unstability with most other
programs.

The truth is that after switching from w2k to XP Pro time spent for my own
PC troubleshooting have 1000 folded, if to consider that there almost
weren't any troubles with w2k. And the troubles with w2k were usually more
of a cosmetical kind while xp pro cosmetical flaws are buried deep under
fatal failures

Can anyone tell some words of wisdom???

What you seeing is not being caused by explorer. Some program that has
hooked itself into explorer is the cause of the DEP errors. This is exactly
what DEP is supposed to do, catch a buggy or malicious program and stop it
from causing harm. The most likely suspect is malware. Have you scanned your
computer for viruses and spyware?

Be very careful what programs you use to try to find or remove spyware. Many
of the programs that claim to do this are actually spyware and will cause
more problems. If you are unsure ask here for opinions before you install
any antispyware program.

Thanks for your reply.
It isn't a malware. I have installed NAV 2006 and I have checked that there
isn't any adaware or something.
Also I don't use any obscure antispyware applications.
Either I didn't installed anything new lately.
First DEP message was of windows explorer, followed by drwatson.

Something changed. You'll have to figure out what it is. NAV does not find
most spyware. What other scanners do you use? If it is not malware then it
may be something you installed. Have you recently done anything that changed
the context menu (right click) in explorer? Have you added any toolbars?
Have you installed anything to do with multimedia? Those are the most likely
causes for DEP problems.

Yes, I did something indeed.
Adobe Acrobat professional macrovision memory resident copy protection
failed - and I had to activate product in an endless loop, until I finally
had unistalled Acrobat an hour earlier. That's about malware.
Also I changed some Opera configurations settings, which I'd like to change
also in a future.

Right now it seems I'd prefer to continue without DEP, as obviously it is
not compatible with most of appliactions I have installed.
After changing DEP settings I found from event viewer also my soundcard
drivers conflicting with DEP, printer printing blank pages and Plextor Tools
not functioning at all.

Opera is much safer browser and most of time I have an eye on running
processes and data what's coming in, so I'm 99% sure that there isn't any
unknown malware running.

It's not the recommended course of action but here is how to do it. In the
following link in the section about editing boot.ini substitute
/noexecute=AlwaysOff instead of noexecute=AlwaysOn

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352

It is likely you will continue to have other problems. DEP errors are a
symptom of a deeper problem.
