Data Collection page and Date fields

I use Front Page 2003 at work for my Corrective Action Request form. I have a
database already populated with records that I want to add to using this
form. I can get the form to add to the database but the fields that are
formatted as date fields in the database come in from the form as text
fields. I need to be able to sort on these date fields. Mixing text with date
formatting prevents this. If I format the Front Page data collection page
date fields to date format then the page will not add to the database.

Is there some way to employ date fields in a Front Page data collection page
that will populate an Access database ?

I pass date (10/01/2005) as text from a from a form field into an Access database without any
problems, however I hand code my ASP, I don't use the FP database components.
