I had to reinstall winxp. now during the final boot-up
stage I receive a message that states," data1.dat file
not found". Can someone please tell me what this file is
and how necessary it is to the performance of my machine??
I would greatly appreciate any kind of help and or advice

Are you doing a clean install; i.e., formatting the hard drive first? If
not, try that. Then clean install Windows, reinstall programs from
cd's, restore data from backup. If you are already doing a clean
install, then look to faulty hardware. Test the RAM and if that is all
right, the hard drive.
