I need some advice. I used to DJ and my twin daughters want me to do their eighteenth birthday party in September. I've been busy going through my back catalogue and compiling CD's of all the best stuff, so as not to be overburdened with crates of disks.

But, here's the rub, I've been out of the loop for the last five years, last time I played was new year's eve, 2001/2002.

Which means I haven't got a clue what the essential sounds have been in that time.

So I'm asking everybody out there if maybe you could compile a list of, say twenty or so really essential tunes I should have. If you want to offer more, do so, if you can only think of a couple, let me know.

I'd apreciate your help :)

I'm ok for rock & indie, got that covered, it's the dance & chart stuff I'm short of.

So, before I trek off all the way to Glastonbury, I'd like your help so I'm covered.

Hey Quads,

Go to this link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/davepearce/

dave pearce plays pretty commercial dance stuff and he also plays a lot of older stuff too. That link will let you browse previous shows etc, but the show thats on the front page has about 20 tracks, both a mixture of current and old classics.

If you want me to spend more time telling you what dance tracks have been big then no worries. Im about to go to York for a couple of days flat hunting, so if i dont reply til about wednesday thats why, although i'll be around til about 3pm today.

Bodhi:

My name is flops, not quads ;) I usually listen to Dave Pearce, every Sunday just after the top 40, I love them five hours of radio :) If you'd like to list a few I'd be grateful :thumb:

Rush:

Thankee, this is what I'm after :thumb:

I already have #'s 4,6,7,8,9 & 10 though.

Who knows some good rap stuff then? Not the obscure stuff, but trax which have made mainstream radio. I've got some in me head, just don't know what they're called. And no, I ain't gonna sing it or hum it :D

Rush, thanks for that list, not quite what I'm looking for but there are certainly a few obvious ones I don't have, so thanks, a good reminder :) I do actually have 24 of those tracks.

chelsea:

Thanks. Some good ideas there. I already have a few of them.

I'm beginning to think I may get away with what I already have, lol, the records ain't been that bad in the last five years have they? ;)

My daughter is a Hip-Hop Dancer so I'll catch her later & see what she recomends
She is always up with 'The Latest thing'

Rush's list is very good, although quite a few of them are a few years old they are still definitely on the 'playlist' I'm afraid I have lost touch with what's new since I moved out here & lost TV & most Radio stations but my daughter always knows so I'll shove her on later :D

OK, My daughter had a good hunt & the songs below are Hip-Hop & all good dance songs as well. A couple are also a couple of years old but are also still high on the playlists. Some might overlap with your comprehensive list Rush sorry, but I'm afraid i don't have time to do a check right now :(

Raise Up - King Kapsi
Ziggy - Ak'sent
In Da Club - 50 cent
Never Leave You - Lumidee
Work It - Missy Elliot
Breathe, Stretch, Shake - Muse
Shake - Yin Yang Twins ft. Pitbull
London Bridge - Fergie
Clapback - Ja Rule
Promiscuous Girl - Nelly Furtado ft. Timbaland
Beep - The Pussycat Dolls ft. Will.I.Am
Disco Club - The Black Eyed Peas
Run It - Chris Brown
No Hay Igual - Nelly Furtado
Control Myself - LL Cool J
Pon De Replay - Rihanna
We Gon' Ride - Dei Hamo
Heya - Outkast
Milkshake - Kelis
Drop It Like it's Hot - Snoop Dogg ft. Pharell
Get This Party Started - Pink

In general she's tried to avoid "wh*re songs" (her words) & keep it reasonably clean for you.

& She said some good artists are:

Missy Elliot
The Black eyed peas
& The Pussycat Dolls (although they used to be a Cabaret act though so their songs are pretty sl*tty - also her words, not mine)

This is getting better.

You're all lovely :)

Thank you Tomo, considerably younger than my ancient 18 year old daughters ;)

Oh, come on, at that age, one year counts :)
