I use Vista.
Restore points are made before big changes, but no daily ones.
I have "Create restore points automatically" ticked in system protection.
What can I do?
It is too late to create a restore point when I want one.
In XP (this is an XP group), RPs will only be created automatically
when the system is "idle" for some amount of time.
I don't know the exact definition of idle or how long "some amount of
time" is, but I have a good idea. I imagine you can define the idle
time, but I have never pursued it.
I do know for my XP Pro SP3 system that I can't be surfing, scanning,
backing up, emailing, Office-ing, etc. and for me, idle is about 20
minutes. The system must really be idle, then your RP will be created
as soon as the moment is right.
For example, I quit using my computer today about noon. It was
running but I didn't touch it. At 12.22 a System Checkpoint was
automatically created.
Let your system sit for a while and come back and check. If there is
no RP within what you think is a reasonable about of time, check the
Event Viewer for clues. Look at previous days for automatic RPs when
you might have been idle.
If it happens on a significant event and you can create one by hand, I
would think things are okay - you just have to wait.
