D drive always full, Loads of space on C drive !!!

I have recently upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP Pro. Now i get lots of problems with programmes automatically copying themselves to my D drive in addition to my C Drive. I have 44.5 GB of free space on my C drive but only 142 MB of free space on my D drive. How can I set it up that everything only goes to my C drive and copy all the programme files from D to C drive ? I am forever having to prune things out of the D drive to keep the bloody thing working.

Hi,

Programs will need to be reinstalled to the preferred location. Normally,
the default is to the same partition as the Operating System. To change the
default requires manually changing entries in the system registry, though
you can also change the install path using TweakUI:

Many Thanks Nutcase, I downloaded Tweak UI but it looks rather complicated. Please could you tell me what action I should take in that programme to sort out my problem.

Thanks Agai

Hi,

I was thinking you were referring to something else, sorry but TweakUI will
not work for what you are asking. This you will need to do the hard way by
changing the default paths under this key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Look at ProgramFIlesDir and ProgramFilesPath.
