Cutting off Internet access on one computer in a network

We have two computers - one in the back office for us (the owners) and
one in the front office for the employees who make appointments and
manage client information. The two computers, both with Windows XP
Professional, are networked with SMG wireless. Access to the Internet
is vital for the back office. However, we've found out the employees
at the front computer are spending far too much time on the Internet
to the detriment of their jobs (we don't mind a little use, and we've
warned them - didn't work). So.....we want to cut off use of the
Internet entirely from the front computer. What's the best way to do
this in XP?

The computer that is connected to the internet will be
sharing the connection. This needs to be turned off.
Go to My Network Places-View my connections. The
connection that joins you to the internet either via modem
or adsl is the one you need to change.
Right click on the connection-properties-advanced tab.
There should be a tick box that tells the pc to share the
connection. Untick this box. However if the front office
pc is the one that is connected to the internet you will
need to move the connection to the back office pc. I hope
this helps.

John:

See the following, but be sure they cannot log on as Admin gp members.

From an earlier post:
Also do the same for Outlook Express: (to block use of email)
Use the msimn.exe file in \Program Files\Outlook Express folder

Is there a way to disable the internet for limited users? It's a direct
connection ( router/cable modem).
We need to make it so that some can and some can not access the internet.

Chip:

You can do it with NTFS permissions, if you are using the NTFS file system.

Logon as an Admin gp member
Create a new group named NoMSIE
Add desired user accts to that group
Open Explorer
Go to \Program Files\Internet Explorer folder
Right mouse button click on iexplore.exe file
Select Properties
Select Security tab
Click on Add button
Enter NoMSIE
Click on OK button
Select Deny for the Read & Execute line
Click on Apply button
Click Yes for the warning dialog
Click on OK button

Logoff
Logon as one of the users and test it

BTW, be glad you have XP Pro, XP Home cannot do this
