"Portable Document Format (PDF) is the de facto standard for the secure
and reliable distribution and exchange of electronic documents and forms
around the world. CutePDF Writer (formerly CutePDF Printer) is the free

itself as a "printer subsystem". This enables virtually any Windows
applications (must be able to print) to create professional quality PDF
documents - with just a push of a button!

FREE for personal and commercial use! No watermarks! No Popup Web Ads!"

"Installation Requirements
Supports Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/2003.
Requires PS2PDF converter such as Ghostscript (recommended).
You can get the free GNU Ghostscript 7.06 here.

GNU Ghostscript is an open-source interpreter for the PostScript
language and the PDF file format. It is distributed under the GNU General
Public License. You may obtain the source code for GNU Ghostscript here."

So... what's new about the program? I'm really happy with the older
version I'm using. Will it do weblinks?

What's New

* Title of the software changed for less confusion.
* Destination folder moved into system %Program Files%.
* Supports foreign language Windows better.
* Seamlessly integrate with coming CutePDF 3.0.
* No longer include Ghostscript. You may download and install it
separately.
* V2.1 detects the installation of Ghostscript on your system. So,
you can always install the latest version of Ghostscript to get better
PDF with ease.

Geez. I sure was in a lazy mode yesterday. My apologies, Tiger. The
list is on the main page! This second item alone though, is enough to
make me do the upgrade.

I wonder what this means.

Well, this one is too bad. Since it seems only to be available as
source code that, as far as I know, must be compiled, that's going to
turn off a lot of users.

I'm going to see if I can figure this all out.

There are compiled versions for win32. Other users will be used to it.

I looked, but was unable to locate any except for older versions. Got

Oh, I should have clarified that I was looking for the GNU version
(not really sure why, just stubborness I guess when I couldn't find a
link to it.) However, both versions work fine I'm sure and I will go
for the AFPL one. Thanks again.

I installed CutePDF today, after using a freebie called MakePDF for a
couple of years. The reason? Today MakePDF hung every time I tried to
create a PDF from a Postscript file (that's how it does things) from a 5MB
M$ Publisher file. I got fed up with this, so thought I'd try CutePDF.

Wunderbar. Not only does it create the PDF file in one step (instead of
MakePDF's two-step process), but it can handle big files without hassles.

Thanks, Wayne.

I did it. Installed the update to CutePDF and also the newer version
of GhostScript. Works great.

I'm quite impressed too, using "FinePrint PDF Factory" at work (~100
Euro), I installed it as a second PDF printer.

What I'm missing is the ability to influence the PDF creation, edit
document properties (Title, Author and alike). Is there a way to?

Maybe with an alternative, I've seen a sourceforge project (forgot its
name though), with which that was possible, but it behaved somewhat
unpredictionary about where it stores its files...

Sorry, I don't know it well enough to know that!

I'm a bit confused about what you wish to do. Perhaps you are not
familiar with how CutePDFPrinter works. You certainly *CAN*
generate new and original .PDF documents. You merely first create
whatever you desire with ... say, MSWord ... or any other product
which has a PRINT function. By choosing the CutePDFPrinter driver,
you can save your original document to .PDF format.

Perhaps you meant to be able to edit a .PDF file? No, CutePDFPrinter
will not do that ... but, there are (large) freeware programs available to
do just that. Look for CanonMediator5 freeware package. Difficult
to find, admittedly.

I looked and looked but couldn't find that one. Maybe somebody else
will have better luck.

Canon Mediator is listed on ACF's Program Info pages.

The file I got from another site won't instal because the Canon
registration system doesn't respond.
-------

It is possible to install (hint FAX) but Mediator does NOT output PDF
-------
Better hint please

at the start of the install there is an ini file in a temp directory
that has a line controlling whether or not you get the opportunity to
register by fax. Edit, save and proceed with entering details.

==================================================

My bad ... it is NOT a .PDF output. Should have explained that
Canon Mediator 5, although a GREAT freeware production package
does make a PDF-like presentation, it will not import or generate PDF
files. It will, however, produce a self-executable file having all the
needed
features. I made a trial presentation with a lot of fonts, colors,
illustrations
and photos, as well as imbedded an .AVI video on hand. It all got
packaged into the SFX result. Had no problem at all installing it, by the
way.

In PDF files there are properties that store the title, author,
keywords, etc. of the file. Within Acrobat Reader you can show these
properties through the menu.

It just looks more professional when I send a file with myself as
author, or my companies name. With the aforementioned PDF Factory you
get a dialog to enter this data.
