cut & paste only provides a bitmap image of the screen!!

If I make any keystrokes between curring and pasting I only get the option to
paste a bitmap image of the screen. Something's changed - it never used to
be like this. Can someone tell me how to fix this? I'm running Office 2003.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
