Customize View in Windows Explorer

When I am using Windows Explorer, I want to see a detailed
list of my folders with only certain columns shown. I
customizethe view for one directory but each time I switch
folders, the files are shown as icons. I can't set my
preferred view as the default.

I don't CARE what color, background picture or pattern is
on the screen.

try this:

windows explorer->Tools->Folder Options->View Tab.

click on "Like Current Folder" button, to have the same view for all
folders.
