Custom Toolbar

I have created a custom toolbar - I have also created a
macro and saved it to my personal macro workbook.

On my custom toolbar I put a button and assigned the macro
to that button.

When I close out of Excel - I keep losing the custom
toolbar. The macro is still available on personal.xls -
but the toolbar is not and it is not even listed under
Toolbars.

Any idea?

Hi Erika,
I don't know why it happens, and it doesn't seem to happen all
the time. But I've found if I have only the personal.xls workbook
open and have it unhidden the buttons and menu changes that
I make last longer. Then hide the personal.xls workbook and
open you other workbook(s).

Would suggest backing up your toolbars (*.xlb) and also
printing window so you have a printed record that you look at
for how your toolbars were arranged.

Toolbars can be created on the fly (via code),
they can be created manually and stored in your *.xlb file
(name & location vary with versions of windows and excel)
or they can be created manually and then attached to the workbook.

If you just added a custom toolbar and it disappeared, then something is
disturbing that *.xlb file. I'd use windows start button|Find (or Search) to
look for *.xlb and delete all but the real one. (There can be more than one
file depending on how you upgraded excel.)

Then try it out. If it still disappears, do you have write access to change
files on your pc--some versions of windows (and some versions of IT
administrators) can be set so you can't change the file.

If this is the case for you, you may want to attach the toolbar to the workbook.
But if you do this, read this first from Jan Karel Pieterse:

And if you want a pretty neat way to build access to your macros, you could use
John Walkenbach's MenuMaker program. It adds an option to the worksheet
menubar. It's really pretty neat and easy to use/update.

Excellent!! Thank you both very much for the help I did

everything is working great and I will see to it to get
that file backed up!

The backup is an excellent (hehe) idea.

Not only can you destroy your own creation, but this file sometimes gets
corrupted--causing heartache and grief to excel.

It's easy to dump the old .xlb file and copy from backup if you know you don't
have to remember what changes you made.

When I rebuilt my .xlb file, it went from about 435k to 12k. I saved that 12k
version--and if I'm going to make a permanent change, I plop in the 12k version
(the existing one may have grown), make my change and create a new backup.
