Custom Search Folder fails to find flagged messages in Sent Items

I was trying to build a search folder that would query the Sent Items folder
for any mail where a colored flag exists. I build it using Custom Search, and
adding criteria to search for any flagged item that is colored. (I also tried
Red. ) Then I add a folder: Sent Items. Press OK. The query returns nothing,
nada zilch.

I tried adding a time sent parameter to equal "anytime" -- still, no
messages are returned.

If I remove all query parameters except the one that specifies the sent
items folder as the search target. Outlook has no trouble building a list of
entries in the Sent Items folder.
 
In the Advanced tab of the criteria builder for the new search folder use
Flag Color Exists as your condition. That works here.
