Custom refresh rates

I have been away a little from the ATI cards, but it seems like some things
havent changed....

I cant find a way to set refresh rates for a specific resolution ?

My monitor can handle 1280x1024@85Hz and 1024x768@100Hz But if i set max Hz
in monitor prefs to 100, it tries to run the first resolution in 100 hz, if
i set it to 85, it runs 1024x768 at that too... DCC doesnt quite work as
supposed i guess ?

I know there are tools like reforce, rage3d,powerstrip,hztool etc ,but i
would prefer to avoid those if possible.

Any better way to do it, and any ideas why ATI *STILL* havent fixed this
issue ?

Try reforce.exe
This will let you set individual refresh rates for any given resolution.
Works like a charm and uses zero system resources.Invisible at/after
startup.

(quoting fixed)

As i wrote, im aware of such programs, including reforce, but im looking for
a more "clean" way to do it.

I have tried that reforce and it doesnt work as a charm, some
applications/games refuses to run after , including battlefield.

Can it be done thru drivers, like coolbits on nVidia ?

Just go to the display control panel and turn off "Use DDC". Now you can
use any refresh rate you want.
Windows is the problem, not the ATI drivers.
Does the same thing on both of my two computers, one with a Nvidia card, one
with an ATI card.

It's not a videodriver issue, it's a Windows issue, Sune, and I've
always thought it strange that after it came up in W2K, M$ still
didn't fix it in W2K updates or even in XP. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309569. Oddly
enough, the best workaround is not to use the monitor's own driver,
but to use the Plug'n'Pray driver.

But where do i select which resolution that should run in which Hz ?

This way i can set it all to run at 100Hz or 85Hz, but i want some specific
to be in 100 and others in 85 !

With nvidia you can (thru coolbits) set a particular Hz for each resoluton,
im desperately looking for a similar feature here.

Using the reforce as mentioned renders me unable to play battlefield 1+2,
HL2 , CS:source including all other mods, amongst others.

Then you need a utility call MultiRes that will take care of that.

Im currently using the PnP driver, with/without DCC information, still i see
no where to define individual refreshrates ?

It really does puzzle me too that nobody has adressed this issue.. $1000
gfx cards capable of running 800 fps in various games, monitors capable of
200Hz, and still we are stuck at eye-killing 60Hz.. just doesnt add up...?!

With DDC enabled on the P'n'P driver, Sune, you should be able to
select all the resolutions the monitor is capable of on the Monitor
tab in Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced.

Set it to use same as desktop, now set your desktop refresh rates, the
games should now use the same refresh rate as your desktop.
Personally, I use ATI Tray Tools by Ray Adams and load that in my
system tray instead of using the ATI control panel, I install the
drivers with no control panel.. With this tool you can set custom
refresh rates and do much more too.

Also I needed to set 800x600 at 60hz,otherwise BF2 wont run,regardless of
the resolution set in game.
