custom number formats not saved

I created a couple of Excel custom number formats for a phone list. But after I exit the Excel program, the formats are not saved in the dropdown list. Can I fix this so I can use the format in the future without reinventing it each time? Thank you.

You would have to create the custom formats in your default template. Look
under "startup" in Help.

For phone numbers, I find that text works a lot better, though
I do right justify it. Where I live we are required to dial all
area codes including our own so all phone numbers will be
the same length so it wouldn't matter left or right justified. The
few that have extensions would look better now if left justified.

If you have the US version of Excel there is an format for phone
numbers Format, cells, special, Phone numbers
The actual format generated is what you might code in
custom as [<=9999999]###-####;(###) ###-####

If you created one look at the bottom they're not in alphabetical order.

Did you save your workbook when you exited Excel. I don't
know where these are stored, but I do make a point of saving
my workbook even after changing toolbar items where the file
is definitely different (.XLB) than my workbooks (.XLS).

Look under "startup" in Help.

You're down to the S's already.
That was a useful.

Thanks for the help. I did save the workbook with the custom format but was aiming to permanently have the format (which is the same as yours!) in the dropdown list for all new workbooks. No dice. How would I change the default template to reflect this?

As I said, if you look under "startup" in Help, it will tell you <g>. There
are a lot of different options.
