Custom keyboard inoperable on newer (XP) PCs

We purchased a special (big keys) keybord, and it does
not function on two newer Windows XP machines (an
eMachine and a Compaq). Don't know if it's XP or not,
because we don't have any recent-purchase PCs with
anything other than XP. When the machine is started,
Windows comes up with no error messages, but both the
keyboard and mouse are disabled. Both PCs have original
software/configuration. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The original keyboard works on both PCs where the special-
use Kbd doesn't. However, the special-use (big keys)
keyboard works on other PCs and OS's just fine. The two
PCs where it doesn't work are both newly purchased and
both have XP Home ed. on them.
