can't reload from restore cd's after motherboard replaced

Hi. My 3 yr old emachine, model T2895, lost use of the keyboard and mouse. It
would boot up, but couldn't do anything, since the kb and mouse were
inoperable. I had a computer store replace the motherboard (the kb connection
seemed loose), and they also said I needed to replace the PS. I booted up
and installed the 3 restore cd's, but it will not boot into windows.
In normal mode, it just returns to boot process. In safe mode, it displays
drivers being copied/loaded and stops when it gets to mup.sys, then reboots.
I called emachines and they were no help. I am just trying to get my old
computer up and running with the same software (xp), same hd, kb, mouse,
speakers, video, celeron processor, everything original except motherboard &
PS that came with the system.
Can anyone provide some assistance or guidance?
Thanks for your help.

It sounds as like you restore cd's are locked to the origonal hw, and since
you replaced the mobo with, presumably a none emachines mobo, win wont
restore.

This is because they used a non OEM replacement motherboard, you can't use
the emachines CD's anymore.
The shop should have done a repair install for you to get it up and running
again.

Do a clean install.

I'm guessing its because your restore CD contains an OEM edition of XP,
which is usuallly tied to the first system its installed on. Any major
change of hardware (such as a motherboard) will prevent it being restored.
that is, it will only work on the *original equipment* hardware
configuration because those restore cd's are designed to restore the system
to the "factory settings". Having the new motherboard contravenes this.
