"Custom" icon in Quick Launch bar?

Silly little issue: On my XP machine, if I add a website to my Quick Launch
bar by dragging the draggin the web page's icon from the IE Address Bar down
to my Quick Launch bar, the resulting icon on my QL bar is an image of the
website's icon. (For example, Amazon's is their ubiquitous A with the smile
underneath it.)

On my Vista machine, the resulting QL icon is the generic Internet
Explorer's "E".

It's not a big deal...well actually it is, because the unique icon's make
visual ID easier.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Right click on the QL Button > Click "Shortcut" tab > Change Icon...

Uh, I see how to rightclick on the QL icon (button?), click properties,
click on "Change Icon," but that just gives me choices of icons that reside
on my machine.

What I'm talking about is automatic on my XP machine: Drag the webpage's
icon directly from the IE Address window while viewing the web page to the
QL bar. This drops the shortcut there on the QL bar, and the icon is a
replica of that appears in the IE Address window....

I kind knew it had something to do with a favicon...but any idea why on my
old machine they made their way to my QL bar without all the folderol? Just
by simply dragging?

you want the favicon.ico of that site...

in order to find that icon you will add a /favicon.ico to the address you
want.. the main domain.. for example for cnn.com is

http://www.cnn.com/favicon.ico

the best way to download the actual ico is to use a download manager

like freedownloadmanager.org or www.flashget.com

and add the address with the favicon to download in my example this:\

http://www.cnn.com/favicon.ico

by the way.. there is an idiot that’s original name-handle is spanky...
but it loves to take the identity of others because itself doesn’t have a
real identity and it has a total lack of self worth..

its suffering from many physiological problems.. in other words it’s a
nutcase! So if you see an idiot posting under my name... its not me.

thanks
