Custom fields, exporting

G

Guest

I had a contact form with only 3 custom fields, I went to export the contacts
today and the custom forms did not go. Now what I have in my original
contacts folder is this: In the detailed address card I can see the
information listed. But I can't find where this info is stored it does not
show up when I looki in any other view or if I click on the link to customize
current view and Ilook in the fields area. these custom fields are not there.

How can I even get this information into even the notes fields? I would
like it the way it was but I just don't want to have to retype all 900+
contacts again

Thank you

Outlook's export wizard does not support custom forms/fields.

You have 3 ways of going about this:

#1 - Create a view and include all the fields you need. The copy & paste
(but be forewarned you may get an "out of memory" error)
#2 - Write your own code to export all the fields required
#3 - Use a 3rd party product (such as ContactGenie Exporter -
http://www.contactgenie.com/cgxfeatures.htm) that handles custom
forms/fields

Hi Oliver

Guess it depends on one's perspective in terms of how one interperts
1) writing your own code as I referred to as option #2 in my reponse
and
2) you're option #4 using the various codesets from either the
referenced OutlookCode.com or Microsoft.com sites to "fast-track" writing
the final required code to accomodate any final customization (i.e. custom
field names if nothing else)

End of day - writing/changing code is required regardless of how it was
obtained/created which differs from a complete standalone program (whether
that's a CG product or any other program). Just depends on each person's
technical comfort zone, requirements, and desire to get involved with code
at all.
