Display the drawing toolbar and click on AutoShapes>Lines
and pick the icon named curve.

And use Word's Line tools to add an arrowhead to the end of it.

When I have needed to draw a curve or circle around a
text, I use the drawing tool bar. There is a circle
option. After you draw the circle, right click on the
circle, click on "Formate Auto Shape". Then you can
change quite a few things. First you'll need to click on
the "Color and Lines" tab. For the "Fill" color,
choose "None." You can change the color, style and
thickness of the line. Next, you'll need to click on
the "Layout" tab, and click the "In front of text" box.
Your text will then be circled. To draw an arrow from
that text to another part of the document, use the arrow
drawing tool and follow the same steps as mentioned above.

Another option is to creat a lot of smaller lines, right
click on them and choose the "Edit Points". You can then
adjust them as you need to.

The last option that I know of is to open your drawing
tool bar, Click "Auto Shape", then "Lines". There is an
free draw function. One of the disadvantages to this is
that you need to have a fairly stable hand to create a
smooth curved line.

Hope this helps.
