Cursor jumps around while typing

While I'm typing, the cursor jumps to a new spot in my text and I start typing in the middle of a different paragraph. It seems to be related to the shift key + different letters.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Need to identify the problem first. Are you using a laptop or a cordless
mouse? Jumping cursors are commonly caused by a) accidentally brushing
across the touchpad, or b) electrical interference with the cordless mouse
(a radio or cell phone sitting on transmitter can do it).

My guess is that you're using a laptop: when you stretch your hand to reach
the shift key, the back of your thumb nudges the touch pad.

I mostly use a laptop, but it also happens on my desktop keyboard. I don't use a cordless mouse, so that's not the problem.

I've tried to figure out if it's some combination of keys or something I'm touching to make it jump around, but can't tell what I'm doing. My husband and daughter have the same problems, we all use different laptops. Any other ideas?

Thanks

In that case, you might have picked up a Word virus. It's not a problem
stemming from Word itself.
