cursor jumping to previous lines while typing following reinstall of Windows 2K

After reinstalling Win 2000 my cursor routinely jumps to a
position a few lines up from where I'm typing. This seems
to happen consistently about 2-3 keystrokes after typing
the letter "t".
 
Is this on a laptop? If so, your thumb is probably bumping the touchpad
thing. Whoever came up with the idea that tapping the pad should be the
same as a mouse click should be massacred.
