cursor jumping down to the bottom..

HI, I was wondering if some of you could give me a solution to this problem.
After the first line on my word the cursor would jump down to the bottom of
the page and not on the second line. i tried using the normal style or
deleteing the formatting but nothing was happening. Please help, anyone?

File > page setup > layout > vertical alignment > top!
