Cursor is jumping to abnormal positions.

I am utilizing windows XP with SP2 pack and whenever I type in any program
whether in notepad, wordpad or office word, after a few words to around 5-7
words the blinking cursor jump to some abnormal location (often a few words
behind the recently typed words and begins its exection causing an abnormal
jumbling of words). There is an utter chaos to read a paragraph. Moreover
typiThng is very slow correcting the cursor to the normal position (ie) to
the right of the last word. This is becoming very annoying and tends to be a
nuisance. Any suggestion to the correction of this blemish is welcomed and
appreciated.

Hi Alexander,

The first thing that comes to mind with an erratic cursor, is a bad mouse
(wired). When mine went, the cursor was all over the screen and even to the
extent of clicking open windows, all faster than the eye could even keep
track of.

In the event of a bad wireless mouse, or low batteries within, I'm afraid I
have no experience.

Hello curt!
I am using a laptop that was bought recently coompaq presario V6307. I am
afraid this has no mouse but a small touch pad. Even as I type, I had to
correct the cursor to the normal position about 16 times. You could imagine
the hassle I am enduring. There nothing wrong when dragging ar dropping, this
occurs only when typing.

The first two things I would try, if you already haven't, would be running
full scans with up to date spyware and anti virus programs. Odd behavior is
often the result on an infestation.

What kind of keyboard (wired, wireless) and have you tried another keyboard?
If there is speech recognition software, disable it and see if that has any
affect.

Hello Ron,
I havent tried a scan with a virus scan yet since this was bought recently,
and did not enter the net yet. This trouble started from the vendor I had
bought the computer, started a week after my new installation of windows XP
on this lap top. This was the first program that was installed. This hassle
occurs only during typing on my keyboard. else there is no problem. How do
you access the speech recognition program?

The typing is affecting the touchpad. That is to say, the vibration
causes the touchpad the thing you are tapping somewhere on the touchpad.
See if you can lower the sensitivity, or turn off the ability to tap
on the touchpad.

Hello Elmo!
May I know the procedure to reduce the vibrations on the touch pad? Is
there any way by which one can manipulate the vibrations through the control
panel?

Hello nass!
I am afraid even on default driver this fault appeared. There is no point
to roll back as this was installed recently on this computer and it was
present bfore entering the net. Therefore virus scan is needless but I did
scan my after your advice with no change whatsoever. Moreover, this occurs
only when I type on the keyboard. The mouse pointer and dragging and dropping
are all normal but is still present.
regards,

Alexander.

Hello! Ron!
I am afraid I haven't installed any speech engine yet. Hence the diabling
of that is needless. I have tried to scan for viruses but that too is in vain
with no progressive result whatsoever.

Hello! Elmo,
I tried your manoevure and is operating perfectly, let me express my
sincere gratitude for the splendid piece of information. It was a nuisance
typing anything on the computer but this piece of information saved
considerable time waste and difficulty. Once again thank you for the piece of
information provided.

Thanks for reporting back. I'm so glad that helped, but didn't know
myself exactly how to turn off the option, etc., not having a laptop.
How exactly were you able to fix it? What options were available?

There is a small switch in front of the touchpad when turned off would
glow amber colour indicating the touch pad is off. Once this is off, when you
type the cursor do not jump and can be typed on a regular fashion. Thank you
once again for the suggeston. I had to try to stop the touch pad which I was
not familiar with. It was rather an accident that I found the button. Indeed
that solved the problem. I was a bit perplexed when you asked me to reduce
the touch pad sensation for I was quite new to this computer. Your silence
was althemore dissapointing, Now that you told me you were unaware, the
picture became obvious. If you are not aware, please mention it, so that we
could search a way out. Once again my sincere gratitude for the propostion
you gave me.
